DIRECTOR'S WELCOME

Welcome to the Construction Management Program. We believe you will find UNLV and the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering Construction Management Program a great place to pursue your studies.

Our program is located in one of the strongest construction markets in the United States. In Clark County, Nev., in 2004, construction employed 106,000 people and grew by 12.9 percent. This local industry is second only to gaming, which employed 267,000 people and grew by 6.3 percent. According to a 2004 report, Impact of a Growth Interruption in Southern Nevada, prepared for the Southern Nevada Water Authority, construction was a $3.4 billion industry in Nevada. Today, with projects like the $5 billion City Center project, construction is an even more important part of Southern Nevada’s economy. The Construction Management Program is crucial to the construction industry and the economic growth of Southern Nevada.

The program prepares students for a career in construction management and provides the academic background to succeed in graduate studies and obtaining professional certification. The curriculum provides students with contemporary knowledge of project estimating, planning, scheduling, risk management, safety, litigation, and documentation; additionally, the curriculum emphasizes communication and interpersonal and leadership skills. Moreover, the curriculum provides students opportunities to develop the ability to function in interdisciplinary teams and to understand professional and ethical responsibilities. The construction management faculty has advanced degrees in construction, engineering, and management and has extensive professional and industrial experience. They are involved in teaching, research, and service to the university and profession.

Our strategic goal is to grow from a small program to a nationally recognized program. The program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. The Construction Program at UNLV offers Nevada’s only B.S. Construction Management Degree and is one of 60 accredited programs nationwide. Students in the program enjoy 100 percent placement and above-average starting salaries upon graduation.

The Construction Management Program is an exciting place to pursue your undergraduate and graduate studies.
